Museum House Marseille
Huis Marseille is located in a beautiful 17th century canal house. The stone tablet on the facade, with its map of the harbor of Marseille, dates back to the French merchant who had the house built in 1665. Since 1999 the building houses the first Amsterdam museum for photography. The original plan of the interior, with its entrance, courtyard, rear house, kitchen, garden and garden house, has been restored by architect Benthem Crouwel and restoration architect Laurens Vis. You can also admire the 18th-centrury stucco of the corridors as well as the ceiling painting by Jacob de Wit in the garden room.
In varying exhibitions lasting three months, Huis Marseille covers a broad range of international photographic genres, including photography of artistic inspiration but also all imaginable forms of photography from past and present. Huis Marseille’s own collection is primarily oriented toward contemporary photography. Many photographers are also known as contemporary artists, like Roos Theeuws, Daan van Golden, Anton Corbijn, Jean Marc Bustamante, Thomas Struth, Gerhard Richter, Candida Höfer, Valerie Belin, Edwin Zwakman.
At the garden the small garden house often offers an intimate exhibition.
The tour includes the exhibition(s) and the house.
