KNSM/Java Island – walk
The eastern dockland area was laid at the end of the 19th century to replace the docklands on the Western and Eastern islands. The renowned Koninklijke Nederlandse Stoomboot Maatschappij (Royal Dutch Steamboat Company) transported passengers to America from here until airplanes took on this task. Now this area has been registered for residential purposes, and its architecture has an international charisma.
You will see price winning Hotel Jakarta, projects by Sjoerd Soeters, new diagonal canals with footbridges and bicycle bridges by Guy Rombouts and Monika Droste, courtyards and Piraeus residential building by the German architects Hans Kollhoff and Christian Rapp, Emerald Empire Building by architect Jo Coenen, garden design, trendy shops and cafes.
Starting point: Azartplein or Piet Hein Kade/Jan Schaefer bridge
Prices depending on your wishes and the number of participants.
