Museum Van Loon
Museum Van Loon is situated in a double patrician canal house, which dates back to 1672, was first home to one of Rembrandts most famous pupils, Ferdinand Bol.
During the nineteenth century the Van Loon family, including Willem Van Loon who was co-founder of the Dutch East-India Company, came to live in the house. Several Van Loons held important positions as city-mayors. That last resident who was Dame du Palais of Queen Wilhelmina for forty years, received here many royal guests.
In the eighteenth century the interior was embellished with modish stucco and marble paneling. The central staircase with its elegant copper balustrade is quite impressive. Throughout time, the interior and exterior have remained practically intact. The museums collection includes an array of family portraits, signed furniture, silver and porcelain silver dating from the eighteenth century.
The formal big garden in French style integrates the combination of garden and coach house.
